Utah deputy saves runaway car in freeway traffic with toddler inside

September 7, 2012 12:00:00 AM PDT
A Utah sheriff's deputy is being called a hero Friday morning. He put his life on the line to stop a runaway car with a toddler in the back seat.

Davis County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Boucher captured it all on his cruiser's dashboard camera. An unconscious man was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a highway barrier and kept rolling.

The man's 3-year-old daughter was asleep in the back seat.

Boucher ran up to the car, leaned through the window and pulled the parking brake, finally stopping it.

"I've got daughters myself and there's a little girl in the back seat, there's a lot of traffic. I didn't want the situation to get worse," said Boucher. "It's just another day for me, but I'm glad it ended the way it did and that nobody got hurt."

Deputies don't know what caused the driver to pass out.
