About 2,000 campers were allowed to retrieve their camping equipment after they were evacuated from the Angeles National Forest last weekend because of the Williams Fire.

The campers were escorted in and out of the area.

The fire broke out last Sunday afternoon in the San Gabriel Canyon and is still burning. The blaze is 78 percent contained.

It has burned about 4,200 acres so far and full containment is not expected until Thursday.

The area remains closed to campers. Residents in the area were allowed back into their homes on Thursday.
