Simi Valley high school student appointed to Electoral College

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.

Christopher Tumbeiro, 18, attends Royal High School. He was appointed by Dr. Lee Rogers, a congressional candidate in California's 25th district. Rogers said he wanted to choose someone different than the typical appointee.

"I thought giving a student this opportunity would be a great learning experience for him and his whole class. I chose Chris Tumbeiro after an interview because I know I can trust him to be a faithful elector, which is his primary duty," said Rogers. "Additionally, he comes highly recommended from his teacher, Mr. [Brian] Dennert. He has a great responsibility, making sure that California's voice is heard in the selection of the President of the United States."

California has 55 electoral votes, one for each Congressional district and two senators. The California Democratic Party selects its electors by having the Democratic U.S. Congressional and U.S. Senate nominees appoint individuals.
