Target recalling dog treats due to salmonella

LOS ANGELES

Boots & Barkley American Beef Bully Sticks were voluntarily recalled by Kasel Associated Industries of Denver. The product was sold at Target stores between April and September.

The six-count, five-inch dog treats are packaged in a clear bag marked with bar code number 647263899189.

Officials say they may be contaminated with salmonella, which can sicken animals and put humans at risk from handling the product.

People who have handled the dog treats should watch for symptoms, which include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. For pets, symptoms include lethargy, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets will only have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

No illnesses have been reported in animals or humans due to the dog treats.
