Berman, Sherman square off in Van Nuys debate

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES

Democratic Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman are meeting in a runoff for a seat in the San Fernando Valley.

On Tuesday, they exchanged views before the Valley Industry and Commerce Association. Both said export reform was crucial to get the economy moving again.

"The only way we're really going to have access to foreign markets is if we make sure that we have a fair trading system," said Sherman.

"For every billion dollars in exports, we create 6,000 jobs. Ninety-five percent of the world's customers are outside of the United States," said Berman.

Redistricting pushed both Berman and Sherman into the new 30th congressional district, which includes Chatsworth, Reseda, Encino, Woodland Hills and North Hollywood.
