The shooting happened just after midnight outside a home on the 400 block of Stanton Street. Police said the neighborhood is usually quiet, but loud screams were heard coming from the streets after the victim was shot.
Family members were seen loading the victim in a car to take him to the hospital. By the time police arrived at the scene, the family was down the street. They ended up calling paramedics, who then took the victim to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Investigators said the incident started as some kind of altercation on the front lawn of a home. It was not immediately known if the suspect, who is described by authorities as an African-American male in his late teens to early 20s, knew the victim. Officials said their early investigation does not indicate that the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241.
