LA Triathlon closures clash with Carmageddon 2

VENICE, LOS ANGELES

The 13th annual triathlon started around 7 a.m. at Venice Beach. Athletes were set to take part in the swimming portion of the race and then bike down a 14-mile stretch of Venice Boulevard. Three sectors of road closures that affected drivers included:

  • 6:50 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Venice Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Fairfax Avenue will be closed.
  • 7 a.m. to noon: Olympic Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Cherry Street will be closed.
  • 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Olympic Boulevard between Cherry and Figueroa streets will be closed.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation urged drivers to avoid the area if possible. Officials with the triathlon said they didn't mean to double-book their event on the same weekend as Carmageddon 2. They said the event is part of a seven-race series and had been scheduled way before Carmageddon 2 dates were announced.
