Two Anaheim police officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in the 800 block of South Beach Boulevard when they heard the blast around 2 a.m.
The officers arrived at the Rainbow Inn and found broken out windows, but no fire. They evacuated that motel and two others surrounding it.
The bomb squad was called in and determined it was safe. No one was injured.
The investigation into the source of the blast is ongoing.
