'Grim Sleeper' social media pages launched by LAPD to help ID possible victims

LOS ANGELES

Lonnie Franklin Jr. has been charged with murder for the slayings of 10 women. Many of the victims were prostitutes whose remains were found in alleys and trash bins around South Los Angeles between 1985 and 2007.

When authorities arrested Franklin in 2010, they found hundreds of pictures in his home of women they believe he photographed over several decades.

Detectives are still trying to identify 42 women who also may have been murder victims. Official hope the new Facebook and Twitter pages will help their investigation.

"We just launched it for the purpose, again, to let the public know that there still are a lot of individual victims out there that have not been identified. We want to let the public know that it's there," said Officer Christopher No with the LAPD. "They can go into the Facebook and look at the victims individually. That might help us really trying to close this case.

Anyone with information was asked to call police at (877) LAPD-24-7.
