Rancho Cucamonga principal arrested for sexual intercourse with a minor

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.

Brian Garrett Joseph of Corona was arrested at his Corona home Monday by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies after personnel from the Chaffey Joint Union High School District contacted the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department Sunday to report the alleged relationship between Joseph and a former student.

Following the call, an investigation found that Joseph was in a relationship with the now-18-year-old Fontana resident. The allegations suggested that Joseph and the former student's sexual relationship began while she was 17 years old and a senior at Etiwanda High School.

News of the principal's arrest came with mixed reactions from parents and students.

Elijah Lewis, a student, did not find the allegations surprising.

"I just thought it would've happened," said Lewis. "It's just something you could expect."

But another student disagreed, saying, "I never expected this from him, this is surprising."

"Dr. Joseph did not seem like that kind of principal to me," said parent Margaret Wilson. "He seemed like a sincere principal. He loved the kids and took care of the kids."

According to officials from the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Joseph resigned from his position as Etiwanda High School's principal after the allegations came to light.

Joseph is being held on $25,000 bail.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have been victimized by Joseph or with information regarding the investigation to contact the Sheriff's Department Crimes Against Children Detail at (909) 387-3615.
