2 suspects arrested in a series of Macy's burglaries in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif.

Police identified the two suspects as Jesus Lopez, 24, and 21-year-old Hector Gutierrez.

Investigators say Lopez and Gutierrez fled the Macy's department located at 477 South Mills Road on foot around 7:30 p.m. with $2,500 worth of merchandise. Macy's loss prevention officers pursued them before losing sight of the suspects in the area near Dean Drive and Mills Road.

Responding police officers spotted Lopez and Gutierrez in the area of Main Street, east of Mills Road and detained them for further investigation.

During their investigation, officers learned that Lopez and Gutierrez had attempted to burglarize a Macy's department store located at 590 West Hillcrest Drive in The Oaks Mall on Nov. 4. According to loss prevention officers, the suspects had dropped $3,000 worth of stolen merchandise and ran from officers when approached. The suspects are also suspected of returning to The Oaks Mall on Nov. 5 and stealing $4,000 worth of merchandise.

The suspects are facing commercial burglary charges.
