Icicles were seen in the Antelope Valley as temperatures dropped overnight. As if cold wasn't enough, bitter temperatures came with a freezing wind in Fontana.
Wind advisories were issued until noon for mountain areas in most areas of the Southland. Freeze warnings were issued for the Antelope Valley area until 9 a.m.
"I hate it. I prefer being sweaty," said Eduardo Alatorre of Palmdale. "I'm having a hard time using my hands because it's so cold."
Officials reminded the public not to heat your home with an oven or barbecue. Generators should not be used indoors, and space heaters should not be left unattended.
Residents were also urged to test smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms and to have furnaces and fireplaces inspected.
While the morning was cold, temps were expected to rise to the mid-70s in the L.A.-metro area by afternoon, upper 40s for the mountains.
Bear Mountain and Mount Baldy ski resorts open on Monday. Mountain High Ski Resort opened to a record number of people over the weekend.
