Panda cub at San Diego Zoo gets official name

SAN DIEGO, Calif.

The zoo followed Chinese tradition by waiting 100 days to announce a name.

The name for the 15-week-old giant panda cub was selected from six names, which were selected from more than 7,000 names zoo visitors entered on the zoo's website.

The male cub was born July 29 to Bai Yun, who at 21 years old was the oldest giant panda known to give birth. Bai Yun means "white cloud."

The San Diego Zoo is one of only four in the U.S. that keep the endangered species. The giant pandas are loaned to the U.S. from China.
