USC marching band to suspend logo-stabbing tradition for UCLA game

LOS ANGELES

UCLA requested that USC's marching band drum major not stab UCLA's on-field logo as part of the band's pregame performance.

In a letter, USC says it will comply in the spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship. The decision was made after the director of the Trojan Marching Band and UCLA game management officials met.

Trojan Marching Band Director Dr. Arthur Bartner said suspending the tradition will be in the best interest of both parties involved.

"It is important to protect a great rivalry and to conduct it in the most mutually respectful way possible," said Bartner.

When contacted by Eyewitness News, UCLA officials said they had no comment.
