California's unemployment rate continues to fall, falling to 10.1 in October. It's down from 10.2 percent a month earlier.

According to the state Employment Development Department, there were 45,800 jobs added to payrolls. The private sector did well, adding jobs in construction and higher-paying professional areas. There were also 20,500 retail jobs added.

The biggest job losses were in government, which is part of an ongoing trend.
