Jada Pinkett Smith is addressing the criticism over her daughter Willow Smith's shaved head.

Willow Smith, 11, made headlines in February when she debuted a newly-shaven head on her WhoSay account (Photo below). After months of harsh criticism, Pinkett Smith is taking to her Facebook page to address the critics.

"The question why I would LET Willow cut her hair," Pinkett Smith said on her official Facebook page on November 21. "First the LET must be challenged. This is a world where women, girls are constantly reminded that they don't belong to themselves; that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self determination. I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are HER domain.

"Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair," she continued. "It's also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother's deepest insecurities, hopes and desires. Even little girls should not be a slave to the preconceived ideas of what a culture believes a little girl should be. More to come. Another day."

The post, at the time of this writing, has garnered over 38,000 likes and nearly 4000 comments.

The "Whip My Hair" singer and daughter of actor Will Smith is no stranger to dramatic hair changes, going platinum blonde in March and then just weeks later showcasing a green dye job on her Who Say and Instagram accounts (Photo).

The youngest Smith has become one of the most popular pre-teen artists and rose to fame with the 2010 song "Whip My Hair." That was followed by "21st Century Girl," which hit stores in February.

Willow Smith, who is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, sang "Whip My Hair" at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2012 with Ryan Seacrest and was later invited to perform at the White House's annual Easter Egg Roll before some 30,000 people.
