Over 100 people cited in San Bernardino distracted driving effort

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

In an eight-hour period, San Bernardino police officers stopped 102 vehicles and cited 36 people for cellphone violations and two others for texting and driving. Six drivers were cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license, 13 drivers were cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and 69 citations were issued for other miscellaneous traffic violations.

The distracted driving crackdown was part of the San Bernardino Police Department's ongoing efforts to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries resulting from traffic collisions.

The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
