GM recalls 118,800 pickup trucks to fix problem with hoods

DETROIT

The recall affects Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks from the 2010 through 2012 model years. According to the automaker, the recall is necessary to fix the hoods on the vehicles, which can reportedly fly open unexpectedly and block the driver's vision.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says some of the trucks may not have a secondary hood latch to help keep the hood closed.

The company said Thursday without the latch, the hoods can open while the trucks are in motion. After having traced the problem to a parts supplier, GM said they will replace the hoods without the latch free of charge.

No injuries, crashes, or deaths have resulted from the problem, the company said.

General Motors will send recall notifications to customers starting next month.
