Charles Durning, character actor, dies at 89

Hollywood is mourning the loss of character actor Charles Durning.

The two-time Oscar nominee was best known for his roles in films "Dog Day Afternoon," "The Sting" and "Tootsie." Durning also had success on stage and in TV.

Before he took up acting, Durning fought in World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts.

His family plans to have a private burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
