Where to dispose of your Christmas tree

December 26, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
Now that Christmas is over, residents are getting ready to toss their trees and decorations, but don't just throw it away. The city of Los Angeles is urging residents to recycle their Christmas tree.

People living in Los Angeles County and its unincorporated communities can recycle their trees by leaving them curbside on regular trash collection days. The ornaments, tinsels, and tree stands must be removed for pickup by the Bureau of Sanitation.

Some cities also provide drop-off sites. The recycled trees will be used as compost and mulch, reducing the production of landfill waste.

Christmas trees will be collected and recycled through Jan. 19.
