Andrea Alarcon resigns from LA Board of Public Works

LOS ANGELES

The resignation is effective Wednesday, Jan. 23, the same day she is scheduled to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment. Police say her then-10-year-old daughter was in the car when she was arrested on Dec. 30, 2011.

Alarcon, daughter of Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon, was recently under fire after her daughter was found alone at City Hall late at night on Nov. 16. When she picked up her daughter at the downtown police station hours later, around 2 a.m., officers said she appeared intoxicated.

"I understand and have prayed deeply on the gravity of my actions," Alarcon said in a statement. "I have profound regret for the missteps of my past and apologize to the Mayor, Council, Department of Public Works, the city family and the residents of Los Angeles."
