Tear-gassed pursuit suspect scrambles out of Lakewood attic window

LAKEWOOD, Calif.

A sheriff's SWAT team used tear gas to force the suspect to surrender. The suspect then stuck his head out of a tiny attic window on the side of the house, located on Del Amo Boulevard and Fidler Avenue.

Sheriff's deputies watched as he struggled to escape from the tear gas fumes inside. He scraped and struggled and managed to emerge from the window, almost losing his pants in the process. He was pulled down to the ground and promptly arrested.

Neighbor Heather Nelson lives across the street. She grabbed her camera when deputies swarmed the neighborhood around 3:30 p.m.

"We started smelling the tear gas when they set it off. I don't know how he was in there for that long anyways," said Nelson.

Nelson said she's relieved her neighbors were not home when the suspect broke in.

"I've been living here for 17 years and things like this don't happen, so it was really crazy," said Nelson.
