The cash-strapped United States Postal Service has raised postage rates once again. Starting Sunday, the price of mailing a letter with a first class stamp increased 1 cent to 46 cents. Postcard postage also saw a hike to 33 cents.
International mailing also rose to $1.10 - that's up 85 cents to Canada and Mexico and $1.05 to other international destinations.
The price hike is part of an ongoing trend as the U.S. Postal Service continues to struggle financially. The mail agency's viability now lies almost entirely with Congress as it needs help straightening out its finances.
For more than a year, the Postal Service has been seeking legislation that would allow it to eliminate Saturday mail delivery and reduce its $4 billion annual payment for future retiree health benefits.
