OTRC: William Shatner calls J.J. Abrams a 'pig,' because of 'Star Wars' (Video)

William Shatner talks to OTRC.com in May 2010.

William Shatner of "Star Trek" fame is not thrilled about J.J. Abrams playing for both teams of the sci-fi universe ? namely because he's not included.

The actor, who played Captain Kirk in the original "Star Trek" series and movies, recently offered his tongue-in-cheek take on the director's recently-announced deal to helm "Star Wars VII" for Disney, which is releasing a new trilogy and standalone films following its acquisition of creator George Lucas' company Lucasfilm.

"He's being a pig," Shatner said in a video interview with Movie Fanatic. "I mean he's collected the two franchises and holding them close to his vest and he's probably the most talented director of that ilk that we have, but he's gone too far this time."

"I think of him as a buddy of mine," he said. "I've taken him out for sushi. I think it's time for J.J. and I to have another sushi and let me put him straight about two of the largest franchises -- and not employing me in either one of them I think is just foolhardy."

Abrams has not responded to Shatner's remarks. He recently directed the film "Star Trek Into Darkness," which is set for release on May 17, and also previously helmed the 2009 movie "Star Trek."

A rivalry between viewers of both franchises has existed for years, even inspiring a mock feud between Shatner and "Star Wars" actress Carrie Fisher. "Star Trek" actor George Takei last year made a tongue-in-cheek call for a "truce" among fans.

Shatner had made his comments at a press event to promote his latest project, the animated movie "Escape From Planet Earth." He portrays General Shanker in the film, which is set for release on Friday, February 15, and also features Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sofia Vergara.

The actor later Tweeted on February 11: " So you heard what I said about JJ? He needs to call me so I can advise him on how to handle the franchises. I'm offering sushi, JJ...! ;-)"
