Riverside officer who survived Chris Dorner ambush identified

RIVERSIDE, Calif.

The Riverside Police Department identified the officer as Andrew Tachias, a graduate of UC Riverside. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Tachias joined the Inglewood Police Department in 2009 and later attended the L.A. County Sheriff's Academy as a police officer trainee. He graduated from the academy in Februrary 2010. Tachias was sworn in to the Riverside Police Department as a police officer on Dec. 21, 2012.

Tachias and his partner, Michael Crain, were on routine patrol and stopped at a red light at about 1:35 a.m. Thursday when they were allegedly ambushed by Dorner, who reportedly opened fire with a rifle. The officers were unable to fire back.
