Cinderella story for 'Silver Linings Playbook' Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver

HOLLYWOOD

In "Silver Linings Playbook," Jacki Weaver is a loving and understanding wife and mother. The film and its four main stars are all up for Oscars. Jacki says the silver lining here is that it's a great movie.

"And it's not just a romantic comedy," said Jacki. "It's got such wonderful things to say about psychological issues and mental illness."

David O. Russell is nominated for writing and directing "Silver Linings Playbook." He apparently had his eye on Jacki for this role, making it another Cinderella story in her playbook.

"David said that the last time I was nominated, he kept seeing me on the red carpet, thinking, 'I'm going to work with that woman,' and I'm so lucky that he wanted me for this," said Jacki.

Jacki's last nomination came a couple of years ago for her role as a tough, controlling crime mom in "Animal Kingdom."

Jacki is proud of her long acting career and proud to be 65 and still working, with several projects in the pipeline.

"Yeah, I have no problem with my age," said Jacki. "I've been acting for 50 years in Australia and everyone knows my age because I started at 15. So there was never any point in lying about it."

Is this a magic place for her to be, in Hollywood, or is this just going to be the place she's going to spend the next 15 or 20 years acting?

"Well, I hope so. I mean, Betty White's 25 years older than I am and she gives me enormous hope. And she's wonderful. Her stamina would kill mine," said Jacki. "Yeah, she's a bit of a role model for me."

Jacki has another movie coming out March 1. She co-stars with Nicole Kidman in the thriller "Stoker."
