Hotel where tourist's body found being sued over clean water

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Two former guests are suing the hotel for not providing them with clean water. During their stay, a maintenance worker discovered Elisa Lam's body in a water tank on the roof of the hotel.

The former guests are seeking reimbursement for their room and compensation for possible medical costs.

Fire officials say they were told by city health inspectors that the water in the tank contained no biohazards, but they turned the water supply off to the rooms and the rest of the hotel immediately after the discovery of the body.

Hotel surveillance footage showed Lam acting erratically inside an elevator before her death, but it wasn't clear how she ended up in the water tank. A toxicology report and other tests on Lam's brain and other organs have been ordered.

The 21-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, was traveling by herself and staying at the Cecil Hotel.
