405 Freeway 'Ramp Jam' sees first Monday commuters

LOS ANGELES

The I-405 southbound off ramp to westbound Wilshire Boulevard has been closed since Friday night. But Monday marks the first morning weekday rush hour traffic was plagued by the major ramp closure.

Over the weekend, crews began demolishing the ramp that connects the I-405 Freeway with Wilshire Boulevard. This project is part of the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project, which aims to alleviate traffic by creating a 10-mile HOV lane along the 405 Freeway from the 10 to the 101.

The ramps will be closed for the next two weeks.

Suggested detours for the closures included exiting Santa Monica Boulevard and taking it to Sepulveda Boulevard to get to Wilshire. To see the detour route map, visit www.metro.net.

The reconstructed ramp is slated to open by 6 a.m. Friday, March 22.

Transit officials have suggested that drivers leave as early as possible for their commute, carpool and avoid the area if at all possible.
