Police responded to a call about a stolen dog around midnight Monday.
According to authorities, the suspect in question reportedly stole a pitbull from a person walking the dog on Lexington and Cherokee avenues.
The dog thief was detained at Cesar Chavez and Evergreen avenues in Boyle Heights after the pet owner provided officers with a description of the suspect's car.
The dog was not found but police did recover a hammer and a knife during the investigation. Authorities believe the man is one of the possibly three suspects responsible for a string of robberies and a carjacking in Hollywood on March 5.
