There have been four shootings within the last six days, certainly grabbing the attention of local residents and law enforcement.
Police say they plan to boost patrols and increase overtime for investigators, as they try and get an upper hand on the violence.
It all started back on March 7 when a 24-year-old man was shot and killed while pushing two strollers. The children were not hurt. A 25-year-old man was also shot and killed on Sunday. The violence continued Monday with another fatal shooting. The most recent shooting occurred on Tuesday, when an 18-year-old man was shot and killed.
The violence has residents worried about the safety of their neighborhood.
"It's kind of scary because you never know it could happen anywhere, and unfortunately it happened next to my house, and I kind of feel unsafe," said Maria Sanchez, a Pomona resident.
Most of these crimes happened west of downtown, which is an area with a history of gang violence. Authorities are not ruling out gang activity, but these shootings do not appear to be directly related.
"I think it's a combination of things. I mean, there's a lot of things that I'm sure I haven't heard about that happened and there's things I see on TV that happened. But I think it's just a combination of maybe gang violence and being in a low income community and not having the services that we should have," said Jasmine Mejia, another Pomona resident.
Some residents say there's been a growing tension between African American gangs and Hispanic gangs, though authorities have yet to confirm this. However, authorities believe the crimes are not random acts of violence.
