Orange County warns of meningococcal disease

March 29, 2013 12:00:00 AM PDT
Orange County health officials are warning about a potentially deadly outbreak of meningococcal disease, which can cause meningitis or blood infections.

Meningococcal disease is fatal in about 10 percent of cases, but is preventable with a vaccination.

This new strain has been linked to Tijuana, Mexico. It hasn't arrived in Orange County, but has been reported in San Diego and Los Angeles.

So far this year, Orange County has had two cases of infection caused by other strains.
