San Pedro boy makes up kidnapping story to cover up candy theft, police say

SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES

Investigators said a boy told them he was grabbed by a man near 6th and Gaffey streets on Wednesday as he walked home from school.

The boy described an attack in which he was bound with duct tape. When his parents found him, his pants were supposedly ripped.

It turned out to be a big lie. When questioned by the police, the boy confessed he made up the whole story because he didn't want to get in trouble for stealing some candy.
