Fontana bridge crash: 10 Freeway lanes reopen

FONTANA, Calif.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. at the Citrus Avenue exit, where part of the bridge is undergoing construction.

There were two trucks involved, according to Caltrans spokesperson Terri Kasinga. The first truck was carrying a plow-type piece of construction equipment on a flatbed trailer when it initially struck the bridge. A second truck also carrying equipment was following the first truck, and subsequently struck the bridge, making a mess of debris in the road. There was also damage to two steel beams in the bridge.

There were no injuries reported in the accident. Some passing vehicles were reportedly hit by the debris, but Caltrans officials assume there was no damage because the cars did not stop.

Lanes reopened around 7:45 p.m. Shortly before 8 p.m., crews finished replacing the two damaged structural beams.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
