Long Beach warned of home burglary surge

LONG BEACH, Calif.

Officials say there was a 35.4 percent increase over the past year.

A group of juveniles has reportedly been going door-to-door in hopes of finding no one home. When they find a vacant house, they break in and steal jewelry, electronics, musical instruments, money and paperwork that can lead to identity theft.

Police warn residents to keep doors and windows locked at all times, never advertise when you'll be out of town and report any suspicious activity.
