School officials said they got a tip the 15-year-old boy was on campus with a gun. When the principal investigated, he found the student was in possession of a .45-caliber pistol.
The teen was taken to the Lancaster sheriff's station and reportedly told investigators he carried the gun to-and-from school for protection.
School officials say there is no indication the teen threatened staff or other students.
The boy's name was not released because he is a minor.
