DUI arrest made in fatal Palmdale crash; 13-year-old teen killed

PALMDALE, Calif.

The incident occurred on northbound State Route 14, north of Avenue O, around 8:13 p.m.

Officials said Peter Ramirez IV was driving north when he drifted onto the dirt center median.

Ramirez then turned the steering wheel of the 2007 Saturn Ion to the right causing the vehicle to travel out of control across the northbound lanes. That's when officials say the car collided with the raised dirt embankment and came to rest on its left side.

Ramirez and three of his passengers were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital following the collision. A 13-year-old teenager was pronounced dead at the hospital due to the injuries he sustained. A third passenger, identified as Matthew Tucker, 21, of Rosamond, and a 2-year-old were treated for minor injuries and released.

Ramirez was taken into custody following his release from the hospital.

The traffic collision investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding the collision was urged to contact Officer Lewis or Officer G. Hernandez at (661) 948-8541.
