Cockfighting operation busted in Camarillo

CAMARILLO, Calif.

Ventura County deputies responded to an illegal cockfight in the rental stables of a ranch in the 1900 block of South Lewis Road around 8:15 a.m.

Responding officers and Ventura County Animal Services staff confiscated seven injured roosters from the property.

In addition to the roosters, officials also found sharp metal spurs used to tie the roosters' feet and various veterinary supplies used to make roosters more aggressive.

Authorities said 20 to 30 owners and or spectators fled upon the deputies' arrival but were not arrested.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are reportedly following up to seek those responsible for the cockfighting area in the rented stable.
