Highway 38 in Angelus Oaks could reopen Tuesday following fuel spill

ANGELUS OAKS, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

A fuel tanker carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline and diesel crashed on Friday, causing a fuel spill and forcing the closure of a 3-mile stretch of Highway 38 in Angelus Oaks from Valley of the Falls Drive to Jenks Lake Road West.

The accident caused the tanks to rupture, spilling an estimated 4,000 gallons of fuel onto the roadway and into a nearby creek. The driver told authorities the truck overturned after his load suddenly shifted.

Crews have removed thousands of pounds of contaminated dirt from the scene. Officials said 5,000 gallons of clean water were used to flush out the creek.
