Redlands brush fire stamped out near 10 Freeway

REDLANDS, Calif.

According to Cal Fire San Bernardino, the blaze broke out around 11:45 a.m. near Wabash Road. Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service battled the fire, which was fueled by hot and dry weather.

The flames quickly crept up a Redlands hillside, dangerously close to homes. But light winds and well placed fire hydrants gave firefighters the edge they needed to stamp out the fire, which Cal Fire says burned about 28.5 acres.

The flames also snarled traffic for drivers heading east. Lanes were shut from Ford Street to Yucaipa Boulevard for about 30 minutes, with lanes gradually reopening by about 1:30 p.m.

No damage or injuries were reported, and a cause of the fire is under investigation.
