Riverside County sheriff's deputies said they pulled over the black pickup truck just after 6 a.m. as part of a vehicle-theft investigation. The truck allegedly took off as the deputy approached it.
The truck blew through an intersection at Sixth Street and Pedley Avenue, slamming into a silver coupe. A man in the coupe was declared dead at the scene.
The two people in the truck walked out, put their hands in the air and were arrested and handcuffed immediately, witnesses said. The driver, identified only as a 29-year-old man, was allegedly under the influence.
