Gunfire erupted on the 1600 block of Redondo Beach Boulevard around 2:30 a.m.
Deputies said two suspects were struck by bullets, but they haven't specified why police opened fire. No officers were injured.
The second suspect was transported to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately unknown.
Sheriff's homicide detectives are assisting Gardena police in the investigation.
