Lisa Blumenthal forked over $560,000 for two off-street spaces near her home in the city's Back Bay neighborhood. The parking spaces were auctioned off Thursday by the Internal Revenue Service after they were seized from a man who owed back taxes. Bidding started at $42,000.
The record for a single spot in Boston is $300,000.
For the $560,000 Blumenthal paid, she could have purchased two four-year degrees at Harvard or two Lamborghinis.
Bostonians aren't the only ones paying up for parking. In San Francisco's trendy South Beach area, someone just shelled out $82,000 for a parking spot in a condo building. The real estate agent who sold the space says he sold another spot in the same building for $95,000 a few years ago.
