The suspected gunman, John Zawahri, 23, set his father's house on Yorkshire Avenue on fire killing his father Samir and his brother Chris. The suspect then proceeded to the college campus where he fatally shot Carlos Navarro Franco, 68, his daughter Marcela Franco, 26, and Margarita Gomez, 68, of Santa Monica, who was collecting cans and bottles for members of her church.
