Dog attacks 80-year-old owner near Murrieta

MURRIETA, Calif.

The attack happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 39000 block of Salinas Drive in an unincorporated area. The dog's owner was bit in the stomach, both arms and the back of one knee, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services said. The man also suffered punctured arteries.

The dog, a 90-pound Neopolitan Mastiff pitbull mix, also attacked an air conditioning repairman, but he was not seriously hurt.

The dog was shot twice by a responding sheriff's deputy and ran off. He was located alive at a nearby home in the 39000 block of Tangletree Way. The dog's owner signed over the animal for humane euthanasia.
