The students have been identified as Wang Li Jia and Ye Meng Yuan. Both were 16-year-old girls and said to be close friends and top students.
The teens were traveling as part of a group of 35 students and chaperones who had flown to California for the summer camp at West Valley Christian Church. It was supposed to be a three-week program to study English, do some sight-seeing and visit some of the universities in California. But because of Saturday's plane crash, the camp has been canceled, and the remaining students and chaperones are returning to China.
While the exchange camp was canceled in the wake of the crash, West Valley will still host other international groups this summer.
"We will have three other visits, two Chinese visits and a Korean visit in the next three to five weeks," said Derek Swales, an administrator at West Valley Christian School.
Swales says the church is reaching out to the local community and the Los Angeles City Council, asking for donations and ideas to put together packages for the families of the two dead students.
"It would be more important for us to show a gesture of great sorrow for their loss," said Swales.
It was a mournful scene in China, as the parents of the two girls were seen at an airport to fly to the place where their children died.
Four other students in that group are still hospitalized with injuries.
Another prayer service for the crash victims is scheduled for Thursday at the church.
