'Glee' season delayed by Cory Monteith's death, Fox says

NEW YORK

Fox says the show will go into production in early August and begin its new season Sept. 26. It was originally scheduled to premiere Sept. 19.

Monteith died of an overdose of heroin and alcohol. His body was found last weekend in a Vancouver hotel room.

Monteith had been on the show since it began in 2009, playing Finn Hudson, the quarterback of the football team who then joins the glee club.

The show's executive producer, Ryan Murphy, reportedly is planning a tribute episode to honor Monteith. According to reports, Murphy said the tribute would address the death of Finn.

That show will be the season's third episode, following two episodes that had already been written. He reportedly said the series will then go on a hiatus to reassess its direction.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
