Glendale to feature 'Meatball' the bear at Rose Parade

The City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a design for the city's next Rose Parade float, which will feature an automated "Meatball" popping up and down from a trash can.

The bear got his nickname after he acquired a taste for meatballs that he would snatch from garage freezers in the Glendale foothills.

The float is called "Let's be Neighbors."

There will be no appearance by the real "Meatball" at the parade. The bear now lives in a sanctuary near San Diego.

The theme of the 125th Rose Parade will be "Dreams Come True." The city of Glendale first entered the parade in 1911. The city has approved a $150,000 budget to design and construct the upcoming float in commemoration of Glendale's 100th year anniversary in the parade.
