Manhattan Beach shooting: SWAT surrounds apartment complex

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.

Gunfire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. near 33rd Street and Highland Avenue.

SWAT officers arrived on scene at about 8 a.m. They geared up and headed toward an apartment complex on the 3300 block of Bayview Drive.

Neighbors told Eyewitness News they believe a shooting suspect was barricaded inside that apartment complex, but investigators said the residence was empty and the suspect was not located inside. Neighbors near the scene said they saw bullet holes on a door at the complex.

Officers told area residents to leave the area due to safety concerns. Residents say they're not used to this kind of scene in their neighborhood.

"This doesn't happen here so I don't think it's very concerning, but something did happen that they're very concerned about, but this never happens here. Manhattan Beach is the safest place I can ever live," said area resident Emily Vanderstoep.

No further details were immediately available.
