'The PickUp Line' trolley offers free rides to West Hollywood bars

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif.

The trolley service, called The PickUp Line, will offer free rides Friday and Saturday nights. It will travel along Santa Monica Boulevard and stop at bars and clubs between Fairfax Avenue and Robertson Boulevard. The service will be available from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Some bars and clubs are offering incentives to those who hop on the trolley, including priority admission and $1 drinks.

The goal of the free trolley service is to get people to bars and clubs safely and cut down on vehicle traffic along Santa Monica Boulevard.

The trolley officially launched Friday and will continue running for the next six months. The pilot project costs the city about $110 per every operating hour, but it's free for riders. If this project is a success, it will likely continue and be funded by a private donor.
