215 Freeway damaged gas pipeline repaired

HIGHGROVE, RIVERSIDE COUNTY

The pipeline near the Center Street on-ramp was ruptured by a backhoe operator around 1 a.m.

Southbound and northbound lanes of the 215 Freeway were closed for several hours while Southern California Gas Company crews worked to shut it off.

Officials say that it may take all weekend before technicians are able to restore service to the roughly 4,000 customers impacted by the rupture.

Utility crews are allegedly going door-to-door to homes and businesses that have been without service since Friday. Gas company employees are turning meters back on and conducting safety checks of appliances.
